Odaline's Reviews

"...The BBC Singers under Odaline de la Martinez perform brilliantly. They are fearless in their ability to transform Ferneyhough's vocal lines into music. The disc expects a lot of both singers and listeners. But ... the sense of struggle seems to be integral to the pieces. Don't buy this disc if you are looking for easy listening. But in a world where contemporary classical music seems to be increasingly minimal or post-Modern, Ferneyhough's brand of maximal modernism acts as a beacon to us all."
Robert Hugill, MusicWeb International on Brian Ferneyhough: Choral Works

"Energy crackles around the Cuban-born conductor and composer like an electric field"
Sunday Times Magazine

"Arvo Part's introductory prayers... has a spiritual dimension and a special intensity. These qualities were well caught by members of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, conducted by Odaline de la Martinez"
The Times

"the playing...under Odaline de la Martinez... was powerfully authoritive in effect".
The Independent

"Special praise to Odaline de la Martinez"
Andrew Porter, Observer

"We find musical Britain inconceiveable without her, and not just because she brings a gust of Latin energy and a warmth to the frequently staid groves of musical academy..."
Time Out, London

"Odaline de la Martinez.... a clear sighted and astonishly able music director. She brings a sense of adventure to contemporary music which the instrumentalists obviously share".
Musical Times

"It was her conducting, and her galvanising personality, that made an even more striking impression. New York is full of topnotch ensembles that play contemporary music accurately, even brilliantly. But the level of pointed, sinuous musicality that is Ms. de la Martinez elicited from the Music Today players was unusual".
The New York Times

"There's no doubting it. This (Ethel Smyth The Wreckers) is very powerful work, now gloriously recorded and sung in a performance of commitment and understanding that has done the work and the composer proud.... all this superbly realised by Odaline de la Martinez in an outstanding performance....."
Classic CD Magazine (UK)
