The Mornington Trust was founded in 1980 to educate the public in the art of music through performances, recording and educational work.
Concert promotion
The Trust’s concert promotion work is primarily at the cutting edge of new music, raising awareness and understanding for the work of living, women, and Latin American composers. The Trust works regularly with the ensemble Lontano and promoted the Ensemble Modern’s first London concert, as well as promoting many exceptional artists such as Marietta Veulens and Clélia Iruzun. The Trust has also been responsible for the commission of new works by numerous British composers together with the UK premières of many American composers. Most recently the Trust has commissioned a new opera by Nicola LeFanu titled Dream Hunters.
Education and community
An education and community programme is integral to the Trust’s activity. This work has involved many people reflecting a broad range of ages, cultures and social backgrounds and has taken place in schools and after school events. Recently, the Trust has been very involved in putting on projects in Waltham Forest involving children and their families.
